"I see the outreach program as a type of community healing that gives people tools to help them deal with trauma."

Shoshana Martinez,
PTV Case Manager

Social Services & Healing Groups

PTV provides emergency assistance with referrals for temporary shelter, food and other basic needs, as well as support in finding permanent housing and good jobs.

Among the social services we offer are:

  • Food and clothing distribution
  • Locate temporary housing and rental assistance
  • Referrals for job training, employment, and education
  • Transportation
  • Interpreter services
  • Client Emergency Fund

We have also established support groups that create a sense of community for clients, address their various needs and help them become spokespeople against torture.

One support group is the Healing Club -- an informal social gathering of clients, their families, and PTV staff for cultural and recreational activities.  This creates a sense of community among torture survivors from different countries, religions, and ethnic backgrounds.  Activities have included dance lessons, picnics, public art, yoga, and beach days.

If you would like to be involved in organizing, planning or contributing to a Healing Club, please contact Maureen Farrell at mfarrell@ptvla.org.
