Staff at the Program for Torture Victims are at the cutting edge of research and service provision. Research is a fundamentally important component of treating survivors of torture because it provides up-to-date information on treatment approaches, opportunities to improve services, as well as a greater understanding of survivor's needs. Research conducted by the Program for Torture Victims helps physicians at the Program for Torture Victims, and other torture treatment centers nationally and internationally, to better assist survivors of torture.

In addition, publications by PTV staff provide important educational, training, and advocacy materials, that are used world-wide by physicians, service providers, and working professionals to document and better understand the affects of torture on the individual and society.
